I don't think Sharia law should be/is tolerated anywhere in the western world (including Australia), and isn't tolerated in even much of the Arabic world. And yes, early Australians did use God to dehumanize those of "other cultures and languages", in justifying the extermination and subjugation of the people they stole the land from. adam P.S. - Separation of church and state was a founding principle of this and every other modern western government. For this reason, Shari'a law, or law based on Islam, is in opposition to western values. It must also be noted that religious law based on any other religion, including Christianity, is in opposition to this value as well. We are all free to believe and worship however we like, within the boundaries of law. This would not work if the law crossed into morality, as morality differs greatly within different cultures and ethnic groups (of which the U.S. has always comprised a vast variety), even within different sects of Christianity. P.P.S. - Whether Australians should feel "proud" and "patriotic" of their founding fathers' abuse of Christianity in committing virtually every human atrocity imaginable on the Aboriginals in order to increase wealth for British lords by reducing costs associated with domestic crime (most of which was created by oppressive Monarchial law) is really up to, I suppose, the sense of morality within each individual.
