Good point, Mrs. Rennick. In fact, we had been helping Mexico develop their economy under Clinton's NAFTA plan, which had begun to reduce the illegal Mexican immigrant problem significantly in the late 90's. Clinton had drawn some flack for NAFTA, as it allowed low skill, high polluting industries to operate in Mexico or Canada (i.e., the Flint, MI situation) - even tho these were less desirable American jobs, they were still jobs. However, since the Bush administration's tax cut plan now demands that all types of U.S. industry operate overseas wherever possible (i.e., tech support in India) - even the desirable IT jobs. Since the Bush tax cuts in effect expand free trade to the entire globe, most of the low skill high polluting jobs which HAD at least left in order to strengthen Mexico's economy have left Mexico in favor of even cheaper nations such as China. The end result is deregulation with NO benefit to us whatsoever, and the illegal Mexican immigrant problem has now surpassed pre-NAFTA levels. adam
